Advancing Equitable Breast Health at WashU Grand Rounds

SHARE POST

On April 28th, Gateway to Hope was honored to present during Breast Imaging Grand Rounds at the Washington University School of Medicine’s Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology.

Ashley Holmes, Gateway to Hope’s Chief of Research, Strategy & Impact, was invited by Dr. Pam Woodard, Director of the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology, and Dr. Debbie Bennett, Chief of the Division of Breast Imaging, to present findings from our ongoing research on breast cancer screening access in St. Louis to radiology residents, faculty, and students.

Her lecture highlighted the barriers to preventative care many women in our region face and the opportunities we have to expand equitable access to life-saving mammograms across St Louis City and County. She also offered valuable perspectives on how public health, clinical services, and community partnerships can work together to close care gaps.

Grand Rounds are a long-standing tradition in academic medicine and a prestigious forum for medical leaders to collaborate across specialties and share insights, research, and best practices. Unlike daily patient rounds, which focus on immediate care, Grand Rounds provide a broader perspective, including long-term patient experiences, recent research, and evolving treatment strategies. Gateway to Hope’s participation underscores the significance of our work and the impact of community-based approaches to equitable breast healthcare.

We’re proud to partner with our region’s health leaders, and grateful for the opportunity to drive meaningful change in breast healthcare for all!
