Amplifying Patient Voices at National Medicaid Summit

SHARE POST

Heather Hinnah, Senior Director of Programs and Clinical Engagement at Gateway to Hope, was recently invited to serve on a panel at the National Association of Medicaid Directors (NAMD) Affinity Summit, held in St. Louis on March 31.

NAMD is a nonpartisan, professional community of leaders who oversee health coverage for nearly 80 million people through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) across the states, Washington, D.C., and U.S. territories. The association elevates thought leadership on policy issues, amplifies the expertise of state Medicaid leaders, supports continuous improvement and innovation, and fosters partnerships that help millions live healthier lives.

The annual summit brought together Medicaid leaders from 56 states and territories to exchange practical strategies, address shared challenges, and strengthen the collaborative relationships that keep Medicaid programs effective.

On the panel, Heather joined Medicaid recipients from across the country to discuss the realities of Medicaid coverage. She shared the perspectives of those who rely on Medicaid, as well as the providers and organizations who support Medicaid members, and provided strategies for improving patient access, care, and support.

Gateway to Hope is proud to represent the voices and needs of our patients — and all Medicaid members — on both a national stage and here in Missouri. In addition to her work with NAMD, Heather also serves on Missouri’s Medicaid Beneficiary Advisory Council, which brings together participants, caregivers, and family members with lived experience with the Missouri Medicaid program to share feedback, spark change, and help shape the future of the program. Heather meets quarterly with other council members to advise Missouri Medicaid on policy improvements.

Gateway to Hope remains committed to advocating for stronger patient support systems and emphasizing the importance of navigation services in conversations with Medicaid leaders.
